Part 1: Technoeconomic analysis applied to chemical processes using renewable feedstocks
Renewable feedstocks such as carbohydrates are attracting substantial attention as potentially “greener” raw materials compared to traditional hydrocarbons. The technical and economic challenges facing this developing industry will be highlighted, and will be used to illustrate the principles of technoeconomic analysis of chemical processes.
Part 2: Advanced battery technologies
Lithium-ion batteries have created a revolution in portable energy applications from electronics to electric vehicles, as well as stationary energy storage. However, as limitations in lithium-ion battery technology have become apparent, interest in so-called “beyond lithium-ion” batteries has grown. Such batteries include lithium and multivalent metal batteries and redox flow batteries. These advanced battery technologies will be reviewed in the context of characteristics needed for next generation energy storage applications.
